Sterling Craftmanship
Session 5
Standing in the office of a Squire of the Order, tasked with a potentially life threatening mission out of simple necessity of being nearby and isolated enough that you couldn’t have become infected with the were-beasts taint, Stives set you three core objectives.
Deciding upon the secondary objective of getting your weapons silvered, you made your way to a local blacksmith, just down the road from the Cavalier’s Estate. Introducing yourselves to the Tiefling owner, Bricusca, you marvel at his works and realise that this is no simple farrier – he is an artisan.
Talking through with him, you explain that you are looking for silvered weapons, to which he is surprised but goes into the storage area of his shop and returns with a small selection of weapons. He explains that one of them – a longsword – is silvered but that it was an older piece of his work and not quite as good as these days. When you ask how much it is, he eyes you up and down and drops a price of 250gp.
Well outside of your means, Atticus wonders if he can aid the smith in some ways to try and earn some coin towards the cost of the sword. Though the smith didn’t look convinced to begin with, he agreed to let Atticus return at dusk, once he had finished this piece. Raisu queries how much it would be add silver caps to the end of his quarterstaff, to which the fellow Tiefling smirked and replied with an offer of 50 gold - for one of the blood.
Continuing towards the Stockades with their thoughts on how to obtain money, the band went past Wallowdale Curiosities once more, only to hear the sound of sobbing from within. Choosing to investigate, the group finds a face at the window, who goes to open the door when you offer to help her. Seeing the group of you, dressed like armed and armoured warriors, she goes to shut the door once more, clearly unsettled. Thinking fast, Raisu presents Ander’s Writ to the elven woman, which stops her in tracks.
Bringing you into the shop, you realise that this woman isn’t the seller of cheap nick knacks, as you had first thought but is, instead, the owner of an upscale establishment. The room is filled with various magical equipment, from glass tubes and jars for the distilling of potions to an arcane forge and enchanting equipment. Gliding across the room, the elven woman stands looking strong willed but somewhat shaken. When you explain that you are there as customers she slips into another persona – that of a welcoming and gracious host.
With this first chance to review the elf in a more natural repose, you can see she is – like all elves – impossible to put an age to. Her graceful movements and eloquent speech suggest that she has been at this job a long while though – she knows how to captivate customers. She talks you through some of the goods that the shop provides and you explain that you are looking to have weapons silvered.
At that point, you see a slight falter appear in her demeanour and the mask begins to slip. Her eyes grow wide for a moment, but she then draws attention onto Smitty, who explains that he is part of the Arcane Guild, as he has spotted her hidden sign. When Smitty reveals that he has been recruiting for the Guild for a while and that he was based out of Avandigor, the elven woman is stricken. Deftly lying his way around the potential problem, Smitty pretends to be shocked by the news that Avandigor is virtually deserted due to some horrible accident.
As the conversation continues, Raisu asks if there is anything you could do to help. This earnest offer of help was the last thing needed to break the woman’s mask once more and she sits down into one of the comfortable chairs in the seating area. She explains that she remembers a time when were-beasts were around and that your request of silvered weapons means you know what is happening and how to deal with it.
She goes on to tell you that the were-beasts came during the night and the locals during the day to batter at her doors, with the locals shouting accusations that the animals had somehow been her fault. Her demeanour shifts one more time into a hard determination. Asking the party if it is your intention to deal with these creatures, she agrees to silver your weapons free of charge if you can wait the hour or so it takes to silver 5 weapons.
Settling in for an hour or so you rest and recover, while Ancalamie magically weaves the silver into minute threads of liquid metal that directly infuse into the blades of Atticus’ Sword, Aldrich’s Mace, Raisu’s Staff and Paul’s Shortsword & Dagger
